Definitions and Conventions concerning the Units

This page allows to find out the meaning of Unit symbols, and gives its equivalence in the SI (Système International) which is the recommended system of units.


Computations can mix numbers (e.g. 6.6x10-8 standing for 6.6×10–8), unit symbols, and basic physical constants starting by a backslash \ (e.g. \c=speed of light, \h=Plank's constant, \G=gravitational constant, etc). Parenthesized expressions are allowed.

As an example, the value of the gravitational field of the Sun at Earth's distance can be written \G.solMass/AU+2 (see a full list of units and constants)
