SIMBAD free of charge for users from ESA and ESO member states
Starting January 1995, access to the SIMBAD astronomical database
is provided free of charge to a large part of
the European astronomical community: all bona fide scientists affiliated
to astronomical research institutions in
ESO or
ESA member states.
This results from an agreement signed by
CDS, ESO and ST-ECF,
stating that the charges related to the use of the SIMBAD
database by European users are being payed as a yearly lump
sum jointly by ESO and ESA.
Users from ESO or ESA member states
New accounts for scientists from ESO or ESA member states
(Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland,
Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland,
and United Kingdom).
will be created by CDS upon request.
European users who already have a SIMBAD account don't need to change
it, and will simply no longer get invoices.
